Building Blocks

Building blocks are Blackboard's way of extending functionality.  Building blocks vary widely in what they bring to Blackboard to include: in class polling, publisher content, help documentation, mobile services and Blackboard delivered core modules.  To ensure the stability of the system, we evaluate all new building blocks and test updates to existing ones.

New building blocks

Blackboard campus administrators can start the process to evaluate a new building block by filling out a Google form.
We are currently evaluating the following building blocks.
  • Bboogle.
    • Allows Blackboard to better integrate with Google Docs and Sites.
    • In the initial phase, awaiting approval from our system engineers to approve the building block for use.
    • More information available on issue BB-54.
  • SoftChalk
    • Allows Blackboard to integrate with SoftChalk services.
    • Awaiting user testing.
    • More information available on issue BB-358.
